NEWS FLASH - The EP Process Has Started to Flow Again in Korea

Exit Permit (or Emmigration Permit) has started  to flow again in Korea.  This according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) of Korea today.

Because this year's Quota Level has already reached near the limit before the freeze went into effect, there are fewer than100 EPs that will be granted for the remainder of this year between the four adoption agencies in Korea.

The EPs that were submitted in May will be granted first.  It appears that during the first six months of 2011, there have been rather high level of EPs granted that made the Quota get filled up quickly. I hope all the children will come home soon.

  1. Yay! Thanks for following up!

  2. I'm curious to know how many of those 100 are already used up with the May EPs that were on hold for so long. How large are the group submissions usually?

  3. Thank you for keeping us posted!

  4. Thanks for the update! I just learned about this site and it's a wonderful resource! We've been told we missed the quota :( Hoping and praying it's not true. If we did that means our little guy will be 21-22 months old when we finally get him... praying they increase that quota!!!!

  5. Merry Made Quilts - I don't have any info on the number of May EPs, I don't think MOHW would divulge that information to me. The size of each EP request group varies and I have no idea on that one.

  6. Love your blog Steve! Thanks for these great updates. I'm wondering your take on the EP situation. Do you expect the Ministry will possibly change #of permits being issues to allow these children in "wait" to get home or do you anticipate it will continue to have heavy wait times and thus older children and longer stays in foster care?

  7. Dear TriGirl, Unfortunately the Ministry is cutting back on the Quota each year by 10% until the intercountry adoption in Korea comes to a close. Therefore, you can expect the number of EPs to go down by 10% each year. Unless something drastic happens, I don't see a relief on the quota.

    1. steve if we recieved our referral 4/2011 and looking back at this old post when may 2010 folks werent getting EPs till August, when would you think we 4/2011 families would get our EPs this year?
thanks, and i know it is only an estimate and there is no way of knowing .
